Tomczak Bowl Update

I hope everyone is having a good summer.  I just wanted to post a few things regarding the next Tomczak Bowl coming this December.

  • Tomczak Bowl VI will be held Saturday December 14, 2013 in Waterloo, IA.
  • More than likely the tourney will be at Spicoli's Bar and Grill for the fourth year in a row.  The venue has been great and the staff very accommodating to us.
  • Given the successful turnout last year (52 competitors) we are planning for a full field of 64 this year.
  • After switching to a World Cup style pool play last year, we've decided to go back to a double elimination bracket instead.  The number of games played overall isn't much different plus this will ensure we have games going constantly and don't have folks waiting for hours between games.
  • The Tier System will once again be revised for 2013.  It will include all 28 teams for the first time. The arrangement of the teams is still TBD.
  • When picking teams for a match we will still roll a die to determine which tier to pick from but now we will use the Madison rules for team selection for the tier.  So the winner of the coin flip will pick both teams from the given tier and the other person will have first pick of the two selected teams.
  • Our custom-made trophy last year really turned some heads and became the talk of the Tecmo world. I've already got the thumbs up from our master carpenter on building another great trophy for this year. I can assure you it will be just as awesome if not better than last year's.
  • The crazy door prizes will also be back again.  I'm sure Nick will find some more treasures to raffle off.
  • I plan to open up online registration some time in September.  I will for sure post info on TecmoBowl.org again as well as send out email notices to anyone who participated last year.
  • The level of competition last year was pretty fierce.  I expect that to only increase this year.  I can't promise anything but back in March at Madison I talked to the Madison crew and they were very interested in attending, as was notable Tecmo celebrity Mort.  Again, I can't guarantee anything but this tourney could be pretty huge.
That's all for now.  Cheers, and happy Tecmo-ing!
